Adios, Amigos

It's has been a long, strange year, and it’s hard to believe that it’s almost over. It’s hard to believe an incumbent could carry the Texas governorship with only 39 percent of the vote, but then, it has been that

kind of year.

AUSTIN

While the Democrats were sweeping both congressional chambers and turning over half the governor’s mansions deep blue, Texas merely acquired a slight purple tinge, a bruise of sorts. There is a considerable

ABOUT US

DOCTalk History

Publisher Chris Salazar founded Absolute Publishing, Inc. in 1997, specializing in medical directories and collateral work for the healthcare industry.

In 2002, Absolute Publishing, Inc. revolutionized the coverage of the practice and politics of healthcare with the first physician-oriented news magazine in South Texas. With editor Phillip Lozano, Salazar published the first issue of DOCTalk Magazine in May 2002.

Beginning our coverage with the April 8, 2002 “Day of Awareness” in the Rio Grande Valley, DOCTalk became a sensation by going beyond the usual grain – by focusing on real news that affects the physician, whether it’s medical liability or tax reform.

We expanded the concept by engaging experts to provide advice and information on practice management, legal issues, politics – the lowdown on the details that go into the practice and politics of healthcare, written by experts in their fields.

DOCTalk also expanded its scope of coverage by presenting in-depth feature stories and interviews with the people who work to advance the cause of healthcare in the state of Texas, who speak for the doctors and their patients, who deal with the decision makers in Austin and Washington.

DOCTalk has been the leading publication for physician news and advocacy. Our coverage of the medical liability crisis was instrumental in developing awareness among both the healthcare community and lawmakers towards the development and passage of Proposition 12, which passed in September of 2003, resulting in the lowering of the burden of medical liability premiums for both physicians and hospitals.

Since then we have tirelessly covered events and policies that affect physician from Austin to Washington, unique in our focus on doctors and the healthcare environment in South Texas and the demands of the border.

Our popularity has soared and our coverage area expanded exponentially from its beginnings in the Rio Grande Valley, with physicians in the Coastal Bend, San Antonio, Laredo and El Paso now receiving our monthly publication, as well as policymakers in Austin and throughout the state.

We continue to expand and enhance our coverage for the benefit of all physicians, with the ultimate goal of educating and advocating on behalf of physicians and helping to improve healthcare access for everyone.
